ASTROCAD ASSEMBLY CHALLENGE
Parallel CAD modelling, space mechanism assembly & kinematic validation.
Kumaraguru SEDS conducts the AstroCAD Assembly Challenge 2026 on 15 October 2026 as a half-day, offline engineering competition. The event tests parallel CAD modelling, design interpretation, assembly discipline, and teamwork through one common space-component assembly problem. Each team consists of two members using separate laptops. Member 1 models Parts A, B, and C, while Member 2 models Parts D, E, and F. After completing the assigned parts, both members collaborate to produce a fully constrained, interference-free final assembly that demonstrates prescribed motion under strict engineering tolerances.

TOPICS & DOMAINS
RULES & GUIDELINES
- RULE 01 Eligibility: Participants must register as a two-member team. Both members must bring separate laptops with approved CAD software pre-installed.
- RULE 02 Common Challenge: Every team receives the same verified reference drawings, dimensions, part allocation, and prescribed motion.
- RULE 03 Part Ownership: Member 1 must model Parts A, B, and C. Member 2 must model Parts D, E, and F. Reassigning principal parts before assembly is prohibited.
- RULE 04 Collaboration: Teammates may discuss dimensions and interfaces, but each member must personally model their assigned parts.
- RULE 05 Assembly: After all six parts are completed, both members collaborate on final integration, joint constraints, and interference elimination.
- RULE 06 External Resources: Internet access, generative tools, pre-built models, external libraries, and communication with outsiders are strictly prohibited.
- RULE 07 Submission Requirements: Six native part files (A–F), one native assembly file with mates, one neutral STEP export, exploded view screenshot, interference result, and motion demonstration.
EVENT TIMELINE
